The 2023 May Faire
Celebrate the arrival of spring and connect with your Chico community at the May Faire, a free, annual outdoor festival hosted by Blue Oak Charter School on Saturday, May 6th, from 10am to 1pm. Enjoy a variety of activities including face-painting, free crafts for the kids, music and dance performances, food and craft vendors, and the iconic children’s maypole dance. There’s something for everyone to enjoy!
May faires have a rich history that dates back centuries, with origins rooted in ancient European traditions of celebrating the arrival of spring. In many cultures, the beginning of May was seen as a time of renewal and rejuvenation, and May faire celebrations were marked by feasting, dancing, and other festive activities. One of the most iconic elements of May faire celebrations is the maypole dance, which involves dancers weaving ribbons around a tall pole adorned with flowers and leaves. The dance symbolizes the weaving together of community and the celebration of new growth and vitality.
